“Are You Smarter Than a Cat?” Instructions

The Concept: Players compete against three cats to determine if they are indeed smarter than a cat.

Items Needed: Worksheet (included as a separate PDF file)

Instructions: This is an individual game best played by completing the worksheet as you go through it. Each question is multiple-choice with two possible answers. The cats answered the questions by choosing one of two treats that were placed on top of the answers. Yes, we actually did that. The answer the cat chose is marked on the screen (after a few seconds) with a paw print.

Each of the three cats answered four questions. Before each set of four questions, a screen will appear with some background information on the cat whose turn it is to answer. The sex of the cats wasn’t included, so in case your group wants to confirm, Milo and Moshe are males, Maxi is a female. And Moshe is pronounced Mow’-shee. It’s a derivative of Moses.

The answers will appear at the end and will review how each cat did so that the players can mark it down on their worksheet. That way they can compare how they fared against each cat individually. At the very end, the scores are totaled up and the players determine if they were able to beat the felines. The cats end up scoring 7 out of 12, so 8 or better earns them bragging rights. If they tie, it means they’re just equally as smart as a cat. And we all know what 6 or less means.

There is an alternate version of the game included that will show the answer to each question right after it is shown if you prefer to play it that way. To use the alternate slide show, go to Slide Show ->Custom Shows… -> Show. You will need to advance the slide twice in order to get the answer to show due to how the animations are set up in the original version.

Scoring: One point for each correct answer. There are areas on the worksheets to total up each set of four questions so that even if the cats end up beating you, you can still rest in the knowledge that you did better than that dopey Milo.

I hope you have as much fun with this game as we had making it.
