“Jibber Jabber: Blockbusters” Instructions

The Concept: Players will have to decipher word clues to find twelve of the top 100 grossing movies of all time.

Items Needed: Worksheet (included as a separate PDF file).

Instructions: If you’ve ever played Mad Gabs, you’ll understand how this game works. The questions are made up of words that look like nonsense, but when sounded out, give the answer. It sometimes helps to read the longer ones quickly or have someone else read it to you without looking at the clue.

You can play it as an individual game or it can be fun to have everyone pair up and work with a partner. That way one person can read the clues and the other can listen for the answer. When everyone is trying to read the clue at the same time, it definitely makes for some interesting chatter. Pass out the worksheet and give them some time to work out each answer. You may want to set a number of seconds that you will allow for each one before moving on.

The correct answers to the clues will come up after the questions. There is an alternate version of the game included if you would rather have the answers come up immediately after the questions. To use the alternate slide show, go to Slide Show -> Custom Shows… -> Show.

Scoring: One point for each correct answer. Since there will be a lot of players (as individuals or pairs), there isn’t a tiebreaker. Just give the ones who did well a cookie or something. Probably best to make it sugar free. You don’t want them bouncing off the walls the rest of the night.
