“Just Browsing” Instructions

The Concept: Players will be given three different words or phrases and have to determine which one receives the most hits when searched on Google.

Items Needed: Worksheet (included as a separate PDF file)

Instructions: This game can be played as a team or individual game. For the individual version, pass out the sheets and have each person keep track of their own score. If you divide the group into teams, each team will get one sheet to record their answers. Teams can be fun because the group has to decide together on an answer. You could have a scorekeeper keep track of the team scores on poster board or a white board. The worksheet only has the first letters of each word so that teams can’t look ahead and finish their sheets before the questions are revealed.

When the words/phrases are shown on the screen, the teams will need to circle the answer they feel receives the most results when searched using Google. The phrases were searched surrounded by quotation marks so that the full phrase had to appear on the websites listed in the Google results. If your group is split into teams, make sure each team has circled their answer, and then have them advise the game leader what they think the answer is going to be before it is revealed. This way the entire group gets to know what the other teams thought the answer would be. If they are playing as individuals, you could have everyone vote by raising their hands to see which answer they thought it was going to be.

Scoring: One point for each correct answer. There’s a tiebreaker if any of the teams/individuals are tied after the last question. Have the tied teams/players write the answer at the bottom of the worksheet as well as how many hits they think it will have. That way if two or more of the tied teams/individuals guess the correct answer, the closest to the actual number of hits will win.
