“Misdirection” Instructions

The Concept: Players will have to try to answer an easy question without getting distracted by words rhyming with the wrong answer.

Items Needed: None.

Instructions: This is a team game. Teams should be no bigger than 12 players since there are 12 questions. Each team will select a member to come to the front to play. Depending on the size of your teams, some players may get to play more than once. A screen with the question number will appear before each question. While this screen is shown, bring the next contestants up to the front.

The key to this game is reading the distraction words as soon as they appear and then quickly moving to the next screen and reading the question. You want the rhyming distraction words to be fresh in their mind when they try to answer the question. It’s also best to read the question quickly to try and catch the players off guard. If you read it slowly, it will give them too much time to think about it and easily get the right answer.

It’s best to have the players at the front try to be the first to shout out the correct answer. If there’s a tie because two or more teams shouted out the right answer at exactly the same time, you could give them all a point or have a mini-tiebreaker (like having them face off with a quick game of rock, paper, scissors).

Scoring: One point for each correct answer. It’s up to you if you want to subtract a point from a team if they say the incorrect answer the rhyming words were trying to trick them into saying. There’s a tiebreaker if any of the teams/individuals are tied after the last question.
